Smoke from the Democrat Fire

So this is what I have been breathing for the last week… My throat is irritated and my sinuses are full. I praise God, however, that where we live is in a VERY low danger area. We are surrounded by mostly other houses and not very near to any wild land. Others have not been so fortunate.

I also praise God because my Ethan has arrived safe and sound and we are having SO MUCH F-U-N!

Ready, Set, Go!

Don’t you wish you were here, playing with us! Come on over!

We’ve even been washing the car!

Bug and Daddy Washing the Car

I haven’t had a lot of time to write, lately. To be perfectly honest, I haven’t had a whole lot on my heart to write about. Politics, theology, life in general is leaving me flat lately… at least when it comes to writing. I started a post on Obama and Dobson but it just sorta fizzled out… we’ll see.

I love you all and I appreciate the encouraging words!

In Him,
Matty

Dr. Nick:”Hi Everybody!” Everybody: “Hi Dr. Nick!”

So… lots going on… where to start?

A New Direction for My Life
So, I am applying now to the A. W. Tozer Seminary at Simpson University. God has revealed to me His desire for me to be in full-time ministry. My passion is youth and family/couples ministry and I am very much excited about the direction that God is leading me. For many of you, this news will register like this: “Well, duh, Matthew. We’ve thought you should be in ministry since High School. You should have just asked us.”

It is awesome and, at the same time, intimidating for me to feel a calling of God upon my life. I ran so far and so long to get away from God; trying to escape giving up control of my life. I have found, though, God has a way of pursuing us. The Holy Spirit hounds us; relentlessly following, hunting, searching and eventually wooing us to the loving arms of our God. And, we surrender; and it’s difficult. Some things are SO hard to give up control of.

Crown Financial Ministries
In that vein, I am taking a class at my parents church from Crown Ministries. (www.crown.org) Crown Ministries is an organization that teaches Christian-based financial seminars and classes. They teach “discovering God’s way of Handling Money.” It is AWESOME. I would recommend this class to anyone. Go on their website and see about finding a class or small group in your area. They discuss issues like budgeting, debt, home ownership, saving for retirement and children’s educations and many other important topics. Check it out!

The Stirring
My new church is called The Stirring. (thestirring.org) It is an awesome place to worship and learn more about our God. Right now, we are in a series called “We are Family.” We are being challenged to view our Gathering as a family; and to view ourselves as not just “churchgoers” but as Brothers and Sisters and Mothers and Fathers in Christ. The Stirring has not had much of a youth program, but we are getting ready to start up a Jr. High group and I have made it very clearly known that I want to be a part of that ministry.

Well… that was a little rambling and scattered… I’m not in the habit! Bear with me as I get back in the groove.

My love and prayers to all my readers, old and new!

SDG,
Matty

To All My Faithful Readers: I’m Not Dead!

Just in case anyone was concerned….

I have made the move and am now officially a NorCal resident. I even have a CA driver’s li…. I never can spell that word… anyway… moving on.

I have written much about why I want to be a teacher and how I am going to get a Master’s Degree in Education. Well, it would seem that God may have other plans for me. I ask for you all to pray hard for me as I seek His plan and how my life fits in. More on this topic later. Philippians 1:6 is still my battle-cry! I am praying for God to bring me to completion!

I miss all my Vegas Peeps more than they know! I pray for God’s blessings on all my faithful readers (and for you newcomers, too!). Keep the shout-out’s coming, friends… I need em!

Philippians 1:6 – the next chapter

I want to take a few minutes to update you all on my journey…

God is truly doing a good work in me and in my life! A few things have happened so, here’s a list:

  • My divorce is final.
  • I am a full student working towards a Master’s Degree in Education from Simpson University
  • I am giving 30 days notice on my apartment this Saturday (2/15) and I am giving my two-weeks notice at work the following Wednesday (2/20)
  • I will be moving out of my apartment on my way to Redding, CA on Saturday, March 15th!

So, that’s the big news in my life. I will be living with my folks for the rest of the spring and then will look for a place of my own in early summer. This will be a good time for me to get acclimated to the new town, get school work done, get plugged in at a local church, find work, etc…

I know I am going to miss my son terribly much… but we are already planning when Bug will be able to come to visit this summer! I am hoping to be able to take him to Disneyland at some point over the summer!!!

So, with all this change and upheaval going on, I have a couple of requests to ask of you, my wonderful readers:

  • Pray:
    • that Bug and I will stay close and he will know how much his Daddy loves him
    • that I will find work (with benefits… I won’t survive without health coverage)
    • that Ron and Carolyn and I won’t all drive each other nuts living in the same house
    • that I will rely solely on God for my strength
  • Write:
    • comments on my blog
    • emails
    • anything else you can think of so I don’t feel alone

Also, I want to get a tattoo to commemorate this time of change, growth, rebirth in my life… the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next one… the trouble is, I don’t have any really good ideas. I would love any suggestions you all might have!

So, that’s it for today, dear friends. I look forward to your comments!

SDG,
Matty

10…9…8…7…

Greetings all and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone! My prayer is that 2008 will be the best year yet!

As a word of note, I will no longer be referring to my son as “Fish”… he is now, “Bug”… my mom always called me “bug” when I was small and after spending a week with her and my dad and sister, my son is the new “bug”… ok, anyway… whatever… Continue reading

21st Century Legalism

I just read a great post by Bill Giovannetti on his blog, Max Grace (click for the original post). Bill is Sr. Pastor of Neighborhood Church in Redding, CA (my soon to be home town, with God’s help).

In his post, Bill describes the new legalism facing American churches in the 21st century. He is witty and insightful and I think these words need sharing! Just a caveat before you go read his post (and you WILL go read his post, right?!), it’s a post in two parts and, as of this writing, only the first part is finished. Bookmark it so you can check back, or look for it in my newly re-designed blogroll!

To my readers…

I love you all so much… You may not know how it brightens my day to see when you comment or to check my “blog stats” and see all the hits. (Is it egotistical that I spend a vast amount of time reading and analyzing my blog stats?)

I really started this blog to help me deal with the end of my marriage and my new journey with GOD. To that end, it has been a wild success. I hope and pray that my words can be an inspiration to you all, a chance to pause and reflect, or even give you a chuckle.

I also want to take this opportunity to update you all on some going’s on in my life… Continue reading
