You Are Basil
You are quite popular and loved by most people.
You have a mild temperament, but your style is definitely distinctive.
You are sweet, attractive, and you often smell good.
Why am I quoting Babwa Wawa??? Because I have this idea for a blog…
I would like to publish an on-line cookbook initially as a wordpress.com blog under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Sharealike 3.0 US license and I would like it to be “user contributed”!!! I would act as editor/contributor, any recipes submitted would remain the property of the contributor with full credits given. If this goes well, perhaps a real, honest-to-god book with pages and everything!!! could find it’s way to a publisher/printer/bookstore or on-line retailer near you…
Wanna help? Wanna participate? Wanna tell me I’m nutz? comment to this post and, based on response, we’ll see what the next step is.
Picture this… if you can…
Men… Meat… Peppers… Onions… More Meat…
I am so excited. The men’s ministry at The Crossing is having our 2nd Annual Chili cook-off on Saturday, 10/20! But, I’m having a small crisis of decision… what kind of chili to make???? Here’s what I’ve got so far…
(Any of these could be made with beef, chicken, pork, turkey)
Traditional Texas Red Chili – meat, kidney beans, tomatoes, cheddar cheese
Sonoran Green Chili – meat, hominy, tomatillos, jack/cheddar cheese
Southwestern White Chili – meat, navy beans, cream/sour cream, jack cheese
I have also been toying with a Baja-inspired seafood chili… it’s not a recipe yet, per se… just an culinary nebula in the universe that is my brain…
SO… I WANT YOUR COMMENTS!!! I welcome any suggestions or questions or ideas or “dude, what the hell are you thinking?”‘s… ok? Ok!
It’s Friday… I’m sitting at work, SWAMPED! with busy work of the worst kind… However, it is 1pm PST and we are having a company BBQ this afternoon… and your favorite “sometime chef” (ME!) has been elected to “man the grill”!!!
So… the afternoon is looking up… more later
Matty the Stranger
So, some of you may know… or not… I spent a year in culinary school and subsequently spent 5 or so years in the food service industry… I worked for a golf resort, a catering company, a retirement home and a preschool, all in the capacity of cook or chef…
Needless to say, I love food! I love to cook for my family and friends. I don’t have the patience or temperament to be a full-time chef.
“So,” you may ask, “what is the favorite food of a self-proclaimed foodie?” Seafood, especially sushi… without a doubt, my best dining experiences have involved fish and lobster and crab and oysters and clams… whether it’s Brophy Bros. at the Marina in Santa Barbara, CA or a lobster shack on the coast of Maine, or my favorite local sushi bar, Yama Sushi in Las Vegas, NV… seafood restaurants make me HAPPY! (If even one of you mentions “Red Lobster”, I’m gonna hurt you!)
But, that’s what I go out and eat. What do I cook at home? Lately, not a whole lot… since the separation and pending divorce, I haven’t done a whole lot of cooking. Mostly Mac’n’cheese, ramen, hamburger helper… but that is all changing… I am picking myself up from my culinary despair, dusting the frozen food crumbs from my shirt, and embarking on a new journey I like to call, “Dinner for one”.
